Position: Central Mining Institute (GIG), Department of Energy Saving and Air Protection, Katowice, Poland, EU. The head of the Laboratory of Technologies and Products Eco-Efficiency Analyses (Poland, EU).

 

Education and Career Accomplishments:
Dorota Burchart-Korol is an Associate Professor at the Central Mining Institute in Poland (EU), where she heads the Laboratory of Technologies and Products Eco-Efficiency Analyses at the Department of Energy Saving and Air Protection. She received her M.Sc. degree (1999) in management and production engineering from Silesian University of Technology (Poland, EU), Faculty of Organization and Management, her Ph.D. (2004) in metallurgy from Faculty of Materials Engineering and Metallurgy and D.Sc. (2014) in environmental engineering from Central Mining Institute (Poland, EU). She was a lecturer in Faculty of Materials Engineering and Metallurgy in Silesian University of Technology (Poland, EU) from 2004-2011 and in the meantime in 2009 she started to work at the Central Mining Institute (Poland, EU).

From 2003 she is a member of Technical Working Groups of Best Available Techniques (BAT) for field: “Ferrous metals production and processing” in Ministry of Environment. She is a leader or contractor of several scientific projects, including international (supported by the Grant Agency of the Poland, Central Europe Programme and7th Framework Programme). She was graduated postgraduate studies “Lean Manufacturing” and participated in the scientific intership at the Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum gGmbH (DBFZ) in Leipzig in Department of the Bioenergy Systems (Germany, EU). She had a lectures at the Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus and she was invited for lectures in VSB - Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic, EU).

 

Research interests:
Her research activities are focused onenvironmental and production engineering,the sustainability assessment of production systems, particularlyiron and steel technology and clean coal technology. She uses the newest sustainability assessment methodologies, associated with life cycle approach (Life Cycle Assessment and Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment) and eco-efficiency. She is author of the eco-efficiency methodology as a new criterion for production system assessment. Besides her research activities she is working as an reviewer for scientific research projects and articles.

 

Summary of publication activity:
She has published more than 130 scientific papers and she is the co-author of three academic handbooks. So far she participated in 52 conferences (national and international).

 

Awards:
During the work in the Silesian University of Technology she received the Rector’s Award for achievements in organizational area and two Rector’s Awards for educational activity. She is a member of the Section of Economy and Organization of Mining in the Committee of Mining at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). She is a Member of the Scientific Council of the GIG. She was awarded the mining engineer 1st grade.
