Magnesium based composite AX41 reinforced with short Al2O3 fibers was investigated in this study. In-situ neutron diffraction has been applied to study deformation mechanisms under compressive deformation. Specimens had two different fiber orientations: parallel and perpendicular to the applied load. Lattice strain evolution in the matrix was evaluated and discussed in detail. Concurrently, the acoustic emission response of the samples was also recorded. Significant dependence of the matrix deformation on the fiber arrangement was found.
